Slater Equipment Company began in 1969 when Richard Slater moved from Buffalo, where he worked as a rep for a manufacturing firm, to Rochester. Prior to that Mr. Slater had been selling HVAC products from his home. During that initial time the manufacturing companies were not too demanding regarding sales quotas.
In 1978 David D. Principe joined Richard Slater in the business. They relocated to a small house on South Clinton Avenue with the intention of remodeling for office space and inventory.. They stayed there for one year and then began searching for a bigger building for increased capacity.
Mr. Slater and Mr. Principe purchased the White Wire Works building at 766 South Clinton Avenue in Rochester in 1979. They also purchased the White Wire Works company business at the same time because the owner did not want to sell the building separately from the business. They immediately remodeled part of the warehouse converting it to office space for Slater Equipment. They also combined the warehouse inventory of White Wire Works and PS Supply which provided the products for Slater Equipment.
Richard Slater decided to retire in 1985. David D. Principe purchased Slater Equipment as well as the remainder of White Wire Works and PS Supply.
In 1990 the company expanded the office space with the addition of space at the rear of the warehouse. This allowed for more expansion tp the staff of Slater Equipment. This addition also allowed for expansion of the inventory space for PS Supply.
Slater Equipment Company has an additional facility in the Buffalo, NY market to fully service the western part of the state.
Slater Equipment Company has doubled the number of employees to service mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, commercial and industrial accounts. We continue to expand our product line to further enhance our customer base and maintain our successful growth pattern of the past.
